Iowa State Savings Bank will award over $250,000 to local students on behalf of the W.D. & Shirley Schafer-Ray Educational Trust for the 2024-2025 academic year. The scholarship funds are dedicated to students from Adair, Adams, Taylor, and Union Counties in Iowa.
W.D. “Doug” Ray and Shirley Schafer-Ray took pride in calling Southwest Iowa home. Doug was a farmer in Adams and Union County. Shirley taught and retired from Creston Public School District. After a lifetime of hard work and touching the lives of thousands of students, the couple established the W.D. and Shirley Schafer-Ray Educational Trust to award scholarships to local students.
Iowa State Savings Bank was named Trustee and continues the Ray’s legacy of helping students in their community achieve their own unique educational goals. The Trust is designed to be around for many years and will award millions of dollars throughout its administration.
The W.D. & Shirley Schafer-Ray Educational Trust Scholarships began in 2022. During the first two years, Iowa State Savings Bank awarded over $401,400 to 62 local students on behalf of the Trust.
The application process has moved online this year. Students can apply for the W.D & Shirley Schafer-Ray Educational Trust Scholarship online here. Applications are open now through March 15, 2024.
